About this tool

What Is SQL Formatter? The SQL Formatter cleans up your queries with consistent indentation and keyword casing, or minifies many lines into a single compact statement while preserving comments, string literals, and the original semantics. How It Works The formatter tokenizes the SQL string, preserving quoted strings and comments verbatim, then re-emits keywords, identifiers, commas, and operators with configurable whitespace and alignment. Because formatting is token-based, the semantics never change. Worked Example The input SELECT id, name FROM users WHERE age > 18 ORDER BY id formats to a three-line statement with SELECT, FROM, WHERE, and ORDER BY aligned at the same level; minify mode collapses it to a single line. Common Use Cases document queries in tickets and code reviews standardize SQL style across a team quickly read or audit long generated queries Important Notes comments and string literals are preserved character-for-character minified output keeps semantics but removes all non-essential whitespace the formatter covers common ANSI MySQL and PostgreSQL syntax Related Tools JSON Formatter — format, validate, and minify JSON.
